An Appeal to Vote for Joshua Wong

as 2014 Time magazine Person of the Year

The student leader Joshua Wong was arrested when the Hong Kong Government was clearing the protest sites of the Umbrella Movement.  The following is a pre-recorded message before his arrest.

“I’ll be isolated if I get arrested, which will likely to happen in the next couple of days.  I hope the Pan-democrats will fight in the Legislative Council and consider organizing another referendum on Hong Kong’s democratic reforms.  We should hold every defense line and shield array in the streets of the occupied areas in Admiralty and Causeway Bay.  It has been two months since the campaign started, and I wish this recording will not be made public.  However, I will have been arrested and in detention room if you do hear this recording.  I also wish the Chinese National People’s Congress will revoke its decision and the political reforms will be restarted in Hong Kong.”

As a symbol of the Umbrella Movement, Joshua Wong has drawn immense media attention around the world.  He has also been nominated as a candidates for 2014 Time magazine Person of the Year.  Xx hereby launches a campaign to call on Hong Kong citizens as well as people in the Chinese and international communities around the world to vote for Joshua Wong.  The deadline to cast your votes is December 6th, 2014.   Let’s work together to make him top the list.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is also on the candidacy list.  Against the backdrop of intense political disputes in Hong Kong, we regard the choice between Joshua Wong and Xi Jinping as a referendum on the agenda of the 2017 political reforms in Hong Kong.

We are fully aware that the Umbrella Movement is a popular movement and there are several other brilliant leaders.  To vote for Joshua Wong is not to support him personally by making him stand out, but to support Hong Kong’s democratic reforms.  This is particularly true when both Joshua Wong and Xi Jinping are listed.  We have no other choice.

Again, we call on all freedom-loving and pro-democratic Chinese and people around the world to send your message by voting for Joshua Wong.   This is a precious opportunity not to be missed.

Keep it up!
